Upright cross stitch

Each stitch is formed from one horizontal stitch and one vertical stitch, both the same length which cross in the centre of each stitch.

If you're creating a row of upright cross stitches start with a row of running stitches for the horizontal stitches, and then work back along the row to create the vertical stitch over each running stitch.

Keep the stitches even, and start from the reverse of the fabric. Create your horizontal stitch first, then bring your needle back out half way along your first stitch and a little way below it. Create a vertical stitch to cross over your first stitch.
